Should I Get A Puppy Or An Adult Dog?
Puppies can be a lot of work, so ask yourself if you would rather have a puppy or an adult dog. Puppies need a series of veterinary visits to get vaccinated for things like Parvo, which can kill puppies, and rabies. Adult dogs usually need just routine veterinary checkups and vaccinations once a year. Puppys also need to be housetrained, but an older dog will probably be housetrained already. Regardless of whether you choose a puppy or an older dog you will need to register your dog in the town or city you live in and show proof of a rabies vaccination in order to get a city dog tag. Dog tags are important because if your dog is picked up by officials and doesn’t have one you could be fined.
Where Should I Get My Dog?
It’s easy to fall in love with the cute puppies at the pet store, but puppies for sale in pet stores are usually expensive and often aren’t in great health. Older dogs for sale at the pet store have probably been there awhile, so they should be checked by a vet before you purchase one. There are also many breeders who offer dogs for sale. Local dog owners will know if a breeder is reliable or if they are mating their dogs with mixed breeds and selling them as purebred. You can often find ads for free dogs in the newspaper or online, but you should always have a vet check out any dog before you take it home, even a free dog. Sometimes shelters will have purebred dogs for adoption, but often they have just mixed breed dogs. Shelter dogs can be just as funny and cute as dogs you would buy from a breeder. They might not like it if you dress them up in dog costumes, but some might!
What Breed Is Right For Me?
There are many websites that can help you choose the right breed of dog for you. If you are looking for an athletic dog that has lots of energy you should consider a boxer. Boxer puppies are not for everyone though! They have a lot of energy and require a lot of time and energy to train. Adult Boxer dogs can weigh over 100 pounds, so it’s important to train them to obey you when they are little and you can still handle them easily. If you have your heart set on a particular color, for example if you really want a Black dog, you should look at your local animal shelter first and see what dogs they are offering for adoption.
